9 Ways to prep kids for your family photoshoot

Are you excited but a little nervous about capturing those adorable moments with your kids through a fun-filled photoshoot? Here’s some awesome tips to prepare you and your little ones for a memeorable photoshoot experience.

Have the chat, set expectations:

Sit down with your minis a week or so before the session and explain why this photoshoot is going to be so much fun. Let them know it's all about freezing those awesome memories and showcasing their awesome selves. Answer their curious questions and make sure they're excited and feeling totally comfortable. Discuss what they are going to be doing - exploring, playing and having fun! Tell them the photographer’s name and show them a photo to help them feel comfortable.

Fashion-Comfy:

Choose outfits that make your kids feel ah-mazing, but remember, comfort is key. Pick clothes that allow them to move freely. Bring extra layers if needed.

Props and Toys:

Bring along your kid's favorite props or toys! Bringing along some of your kids' favorite toys or props can help keep them engaged and entertained during breaks in the photoshoot.

Bring Snacks and Drinks: Have some healthy snacks and drinks on hand to keep your kids energized and happy throughout the photoshoot. Just be cautious about anything that might stain their outfits. Apples, dried fruit, rice cakes, popcorn and trail mixes are great options.

Practice Poses and Expressions:

Before the photoshoot, have a little practice session at home where you and your kids can practice different poses and expressions. Make it playful and fun.

Encourage Natural Expressions: While it's okay to suggest certain poses or expressions, also let your kids be themselves. Candid and natural expressions often make for the best photos.

Stay Positive and Patient:

Your attitude and demeanor will impact your kids' experience. Stay positive, patient, and encouraging throughout the shoot. Compliment them and make them feel special.

Be Prepared for Breaks:

Kids have shorter attention spans, so be prepared for short breaks during the photoshoot. Use this time to relax, have a snack, or let them play around a bit.

Be Flexible:

Sometimes things don't go as planned, and that's okay. Be flexible and open to improvising if your kids are not in the mood for certain poses or activities. Don't let a mishap ruin the rest of the session.

Remember, the goal of the photoshoot is to capture your kids' personalities and create lasting memories. By preparing them well and ensuring a positive and enjoyable experience, you're more likely to get beautiful and genuine photos.
